Bilingual students

Our Two-Way Dual Language program pairs students in Bilingual partners in order to learn from each other's language strengths. The students work together throughout the day to foster collaboration, accountability and empathy. Working in pairs promotes understanding of content lessons and language development.

Our standards aligned curriculum of instruction allows students to learn at high levels while building a second language by being immersed in both languages throughout the day.

The program's goal is to develop students' full academic and linguistic potential by becoming fully proficient in both English and Spanish.

Dual Language Program at Crain Elementary

The Dual Language Program is housed at Crain Elementary and will be available to all kindergarten students in 2024-2025.

You do not need to know Spanish to support your child in a two-way program.  Research shows that students who have strong foundational skills in their first language are able to transfer those skills as they learn a second language (Cummins, 1996).  Reading with your child in any language will help strengthen their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.

Why should I consider enrolling my child in a Two-Way Dual Language Program?

A bilingual person has the ability to communicate and interact with more people from around the world.  Becoming bilingual gives students, the skills and knowledge to function competently in a global society.  Students in a Dual Language Program can experience higher academic, cognitive and social benefits as they master two languages. In addition, most students also believed that being bilingual had made them smarter, able to perform better in school, able to think better, and would someday help them get a better job.  (Lindholm and Molina, 2006).
