Families of incoming kindergarten students are encouraged to explore Victoria ISD's Dual Language Program, an innovative educational opportunity that helps children develop academic excellence in both English and Spanish. Through the program, students build strong foundations in literacy, language development, and core academic subjects while gaining the lifelong benefits of bilingualism and biliteracy.

The goal of Victoria ISD's Dual Language Program is to develop each student's full academic and linguistic potential by helping children become fully proficient in both English and Spanish. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through fifth grade, students learn grade-level content in both languages, developing the skills and confidence needed to succeed academically while becoming effective communicators in two languages.

Dual language education benefits the whole child. Students enrolled in dual language programs often demonstrate strong academic performance, enhanced critical thinking skills, improved problem-solving abilities, and increased cognitive flexibility. Learning in two languages also helps students develop greater cultural awareness, adaptability, and confidence while preparing them to navigate an increasingly connected world.

Throughout their elementary years, students in the Dual Language Program learn to read, write, speak, and think in both English and Spanish while mastering the same academic standards as their peers. As language proficiency grows, so does students' ability to communicate, collaborate, and excel across all subject areas.

Research continues to show that bilingual students are equipped with skills that benefit them throughout their educational journey and beyond. From stronger communication abilities and enhanced cultural competence to increased career opportunities later in life, dual language education provides lasting advantages that extend far beyond the classroom.

Victoria ISD's Dual Language Program supports the district's commitment to Achieving Excellence for All by providing students with opportunities to grow academically, linguistically, and personally. By developing proficiency in two languages, students gain skills that help them succeed in school today while preparing them for the opportunities of tomorrow.
