At the Feb. 15 Regular School Board Meeting, VISD’s board trustees approved the 2022-23 academic calendar. It can be viewed at www.visd.net/calendar.
After meeting in early January, the District Education Committee, including representatives from each campus, provided VISD teachers and staff an opportunity to review, provide input, and vote on their preference between two calendar options. The preferred calendar was then taken to the board.
The 2022-23 academic calendar features an increase in the number of student instructional time with the number of student days increasing from 173 to 180. Of the 180 student days, eight days are designated as early release days. On these days, there will be a half-day of student instruction and a half-day of professional learning, planning or teacher work, allowing campuses the opportunity to review student learning data and make instructional adjustments as needed.
Victoria ISD will also participate in the TEA’s Additional Days School Year (ADSY) this summer, an opportunity for the district to expand the academic and enrichment options available for students and families. The 2022 ADSY summer learning program will provide over 1000 elementary students with 3 hours of academic learning coupled with 3 hours of enrichment. The increase to 180 student days is related to the eligibility requirements for this program. More details on ADSY will come later this month.
