As we prepare for the upcoming 2024-25 school year, Victoria Independent School District (VISD) wishes to remind parents and guardians of the ongoing enforcement of the electronic device policy at Victoria East and West High Schools. This policy, initially enforced last year following Spring Break, remains in place to ensure a productive learning environment for all students.
Per district policy FNCE(Local), an authorized District employee may confiscate a personal telecommunications device, including a mobile telephone, used in violation of applicable campus rules. A confiscated personal telecommunications device shall be released for a fee. As outlined in the student handbook, the student's parents may retrieve the device after paying the fee.
The VISD Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, policy FNCE(Local), and the Victoria ISD High School Electronic Device Policy can be found on the VISD website.
Disciplinary action for unauthorized use of electronic devices will be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. A student who uses an electronic device during the school day in violation of district and campus rules shall have the device confiscated.
First (1st) offense: The parent is required to pick up the device from the principal’s office.
All subsequent offenses: Will incur a fee of $15.00, which must be paid before the device is returned to the parent/guardian.
Confiscated devices that are not retrieved by the student’s parent/guardian will become the property of the district if unclaimed by the last day of the school year. The district or campus is not responsible for damaged or lost devices.
VISD kindly asks for parents' cooperation in speaking with their child(ren) regarding these rules and policies. It is crucial that students understand the importance of following these guidelines to maintain a focused and productive learning environment. Parents are encouraged to emphasize the consequences that may result from not adhering to these rules.
VISD appreciates the support and partnership of parents and guardians in ensuring the success and well-being of all students. For any questions or concerns, please contact your campus.
